THE REHEARSAL PROCESS

Our rehearsal process was a very in-depth and long process. It required lots of thorough reflection and critical analysis to determine what route we desired to go down with the piece, what we wanted to convey, and how we could feasibly do this in the time given both to devising, and in performance time itself.

Music spoke to us from the beginning. In our initial rehearsals, music evoked emotion, it inspired movement, and it is what starts the piece, slowly taking the audience into the lull of sleep. Although, the audience are in fact far from it – the piece offers many physical manifestations of overwhelming emotions and we really took the time to consider the intention of each and every artistic choice we made, to ensure our message was thoroughly communicated.

Each and every member of this group put in hours of work to ensure everything came together cohesively: from detailed plans and scripts, to-do lists, video and photo editing, choreography, and more; we all sought to achieve the mutual goal of producing work we were proud of, and that spoke to us. Due to our own personal experiences, we all deeply resonated with our final piece, each moment sharing a part of ourselves vulnerably with the audience, which we hope they will appreciate and connect with.

Our piece asks some very emotional and conceptual questions that require the audience to walk away feeling moved, and their trust of their own mind doubted. Through the brain’s way of processing, the boundary between reality and non-reality becomes blurred, and the individual can become readily tormented by memories or truths they are not ready to face.

This piece comes from all of our hearts and we hope the audience “feel”; that is the point of all theatre – to make people feel something, anything at all.
